Thailand's FlagThailand

Linguistically, ethnic Thai's are related Southern Chinese groups. The country also has a mixture of cultures . For example, Northern Thailand has a strong Burmese and Lao influence having a different ethnic make-up to the rest of the country.

Thais have deep respect for their Royal family and especially King Bhumibol, who is respected for his services to the Thai people. The King is held to be sacred, inviolable, a semi-deity and Royalty holds the top position in Thai social hierarchy above the Buddhist monks.

The Thai society is extremely hierarchical and consequently, social standing is an integral part of a Thai's life.

Most of the population is rural based (~ 82%). Bangkok is the major urban region being a major centre for manufacture which is continually growing and placing great demands on services and facilities.

Due the Buddhist philosophy, Thais are very tolerant people with respect to religion, race and the way people live their life. People will follow Buddhist philosophy whist still paying attention to Hindu gods and animist spirits. Being pragmatic, the Thais consider if it doesn't hurt, it may do some good. If you  expect to work in Thailand or do business with Thais, you really need to study the culture beforehand.
