Indonsesian FlagIndonesia
Indonesians are friendly people who have strong social and spiritual values. Of the 350 different ethnic groups, the Javanese make up 45% of the population. Furthermore, Java holds 60% of the total Indonesian population making it the most densely populated island in Indonesia. The Chinese, who mainly live in the urban areas, control many aspects of the economy in Indonesia although they only comprise about 2% of the population.

Irrespective of ethnic group, all Indonesians respect and value loyalty to family and friends. The western concept of strong individualism is seen as contrary to their culture where the welfare of the majority will usually over-ride that of an individual. In fact, western individualism can be seen as selfish. What a westerner would consider nepotism, an Indonesian would be chastised by his family if he did not help family members to get a job. Similarly, western feminism does not enjoy support from urban educated Indonesian women, who although intent on a career, wish to be recognised for their role as housewife and mother.
