The country is clean, full of resources, large,
shares no borders, has a generally good climate,
the population is well educated and the society
is very egalitarian and generally ethnically well
mixed. It has a single language (with little
accents between parts of the country) and people
generally have a quite comfortable standard of
living. Strangers are greeted in an outgoing and
friendly manner and people will generally try to
help others. Modest behaviour is the norm and
ostentatious, loud, aggressive and arrogant
behaviour is generally considered inappropriate
and rude.
In recent decades, after a
long period of European an British immigration,
Asian and African immigration has increased and
Australian society has adopted the ethos of
multi-culturalism (the country has one of the
highest percentages of foreign born residents in
the world). Racial problems are relatively minor
within the society and there are federal laws to
deal with racial as well as sexual
discrimination.
